WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SPANISH WORD?

If you are one of the 500 million people in the world who speaks Spanish, you might be interested in ElDiaE, a worldwide internet event happening this Saturday, June 18.
It is sponsored by the Instituto Cervantes , a non-profit group that promotes the study and teaching of the Spanish language.

Several prominent people were asked to name their favorite word in Spanish. Antonio Banderas likes alegria, Shakira chooses meliflua, Cuban ballet diva Alicia Alonso opts for bailamos.
Personally, I've always been fond of the word bodega, with its variety of vowel sounds, and the chance to pronounce the beautiful Spanish 'd' which softly mixes the English 'd' and 'th' sounds.
And it's so much more poetic than its English equivalent 'storeroom'.

You can vote on the website (http://www.eldiae.es/vota-tu-palabra) or send me your favorite Spanish word here.

My two favourite words lack elegance, but they sure are fun to say (and my conversations are peppered with them, sometimes side by side), "pinche" and "chismosa". :)

I've always liked "porvenir" because we lack that single-word concept in English. Very poetic.

I can't explain it, but I've always liked lamentablamente ... it must be the way it rolls along, and it always seems rather dramatic to me...

I too like porvenir (as in Elena Garro's Recuerdos del porvenir) but am equally smitten with the word lamentablamente which I just learned when a hostel where I wanted to stay was full.

"Immobiliario" and "reanĂmate" because they're great words for practing vowel sounds.

For me and all travel lovers it has to be 'Salida'. Departure!

An impressive share! I've just forwarded this onto a coworker who has been conducting a little research on this. And he in fact bought me breakfast simply because I found it for him... lol. So allow me to reword this.... Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this subject here on your internet site.
